The Upcycle Market
I got the opportunity to work with Jolene Hays to capture images and create some marketing material for her business, The Upcycle Market. While working with her I feel like I was able to build upon many already established skills and really grow as a photographer. I got to practice using my equipment outside of the classroom and in a professional environment with a client, and also work with photographing a new subject that I have not had to work with much, flowers! I learned in my time working with Jolene that photographing flowers for product photography is much more difficult than it seems. While they are very beautiful, it was a challenge to find a good way to photograph bouquets in a professional way that made them look as beautiful as they did in real life. I found that I struggled most with photographing them in a studio like environment with controlled lighting, however throughout the process I was able to experiment with lighting and find ways to capture images that would be appealing to her demographic. I also got to create some marketing materials for her to use on social media to promote her shop for valentines day, and had a lot of fun! Overall I felt that this was a great opportunity for me to work with a client in the area of photography that I would like to pursue, and will be using the things I have learned during my time working with The Upcycle Market with my future clients.
